Rewritten London takes the bridal world by storm

With their versatile collection of bridesmaid's dresses and admirable commitment to sustainability, Rewritten is the perfect place for you and your girls to seal the deal.

Are you a bride currently on the hunt for versatile, stylish dresses for you and your maids available in countless styles and colour ways, or are you just searching for the perfect dress to wear to your next fancy event? If your answer is yes to either of those questions, Rewritten London is patiently awaiting your visit. Located in the heart of East London, just a 10-minute walk from Hackney Wick overground station, Rewritten is one of the city’s hottest sustainable bridalwear and bridesmaid’s dress retailers, offering a variety of different styling appointments according to your needs within their flagship showroom.

Founded in 2016 by friends Katie Arnott and Frances Cookson, Rewritten began with a modest collection comprised of just four bridesmaid’s dress styles in four colours. Six years on, they have taken the bridal world by storm, offering over 15 colours available to order in 10 contrasting styles in sizes 8-26, alongside their sustainable capsule bridal edit. Alice and Fran were initially inspired to create their brand as a result of their frustration with the lack of contemporary bridesmaids dresses out there, leading them to eventually providing brides with a plethora of modern and affordable dress and jumpsuit styles that have the potential to be worn again on a separate occasion.

When asked about her experience buying her bridesmaid’s dresses from Rewritten London, 2022 bride Laura Gibson said: “I had the best experience with Rewritten London, I’m so glad I decided to choose my bridesmaids dresses there! I was really worried about not finding a style that would suit all of my bridesmaids, but because at Rewritten you are able to mix and match styles it made the process so much easier. Their Stratford showroom is also so lovely, and my stylist was super welcoming and helpful.”

To find out more about the origins of this incredible East London based bridal wear brand, we asked Rewritten London’s senior marketing executive Ella Yeoman why founders Katie and Frances were initially frustrated with the choice of contemporary bridesmaid's dresses, to which she answered:

“Best friends Fran & Katie were both engaged and getting married around a similar time, and at that time were both looking for bridesmaids dresses which were contemporary and also inclusive of plus sizes. Both Fran & Katie had a group of bridesmaids each which were all different shapes and sizes and they wanted to find dresses they liked, but also dresses their bridesmaids would love and feel comfortable in, and this was something that was missing in the market at the time. Fran & Katie created Rewritten with all of this in mind - they created a collection that can be mixed together so your bridesmaids don't have to all wear the same dress, and also a collection which is size inclusive.”

A Fashion Design Graduate from Edinburgh College of Art, Fran spent ten years working in Communications for brands such as NET-A-PORTER before founding Rewritten with Katie, who previously managed all the retail channels for fine jewellery brand Astley Clark. The two friends truly are the perfect match, with Katie handling the financial and operational side of the business and Fran designing each garment from start to finish.

As founding member of the Sustainability Fashion Accelerator with leading authority: The Trampery, Rewritten’s aim is to keep to trends whilst simultaneously ‘rewriting’ the rules of fashion, as sustainability is at the heart of what they do. Every Rewritten garment is designed and made in the UK from luxurious sustainable fabrics such as recycled satin, recycled crepe, and organic peace silk, so you can be assured that you are making the most sustainable choice possible by investing in a Rewritten piece for your wedding or special occasion.

Another particularly admirable attribute of Rewritten is that they are extremely transparent about their sustainability efforts, and for an industry that is currently abundant in greenwashing, this is incredibly refreshing. Every gown is entirely made in London, from design to finished dress. Although their bridal collection, constructed of recycled and organic fabrics is in fact 100% sustainable, Rewritten have openly admitted to using recycled fabric throughout 50% of their bridesmaid’s collection, with plans to increase this to 100% by the end of 2023. If that isn’t inspiring, we don’t know what is!

Both of their studios are located in the bustling area of Hackney Wick, where you can book a visit online for either a 30-minute, 1 hour or 1.5-hour weekend appointment. Within your appointment, you and your girls will be able to decide on the perfect bridesmaids dresses, with the help of an expert bridal stylist to guide you through the collection and narrow down the best suited styles and colours.

It is also no surprise to us at all that Rewritten decided on locating their beautiful studio within this vibrant area of East London. Marketing Executive of Rewritten Ella Yeoman seconds this, telling us that:

We moved to Hackney Wick just before Covid and at that time had one studio which is a part of the Trampery. The Trampery is a creative hub which has many studios home to other creative businesses. It's so great to be surrounded by other creatives and have a community which can inspire each other. Since then, the Trampery space has expanded with many more studios which allowed us to open up another studio which is now our main showroom for bridesmaids appointments. We also work with some newer creative studios to the area including a pattern cutter and sampling studio. It's so nice to work so closely with other studios and be able to be just around the corner to pop by and work together in person.”

Rewritten’s success is continuing to grow at a rapid rate, with their versatile range of bridal and bridesmaid's dresses being stocked in many independent bridal boutiques located in the UK, Europe and Australia as well as their two East London showrooms. Offering a plethora of contemporary yet classic styles available to mix and match in a variety of colourways, at Rewritten we can guarantee that there truly is something for everyone.
